This is one way to become more familiar with your local growers and support their farms. Of course, it also includes the food you grow yourself, you cheeky little victory gardeners!
2 Make 1 Thing
The making of things is an important part of what we are and what we can be. This blog will contain information about the things people make: art, craft and everything in between.
I am an architect by training, but have taken time away from architecture to raise children. I returned to pottery for a bit, but I also have interests in other areas which will appear from time to time.
In the past year plus I have had two health issues that have left me, well, wondering what I will be able to do as the years advance. These past two months I first thought I was recovering but now know that I can never return to the level of activity I once had.
The making of things is an important part of what we are and what we can be. This blog will contain information about the media I use and the things I've made. I primarily work in pottery, but I also have interests in other areas which will appear from time to time.
I am listing books below that I feel reflect the nature of what it means to craft objects. I have provided these links as a reference. They are direct links to Amazon.com. Hopefully readers will find them as useful and informative as I do.
The Unknown Craftsman by Soetsu Yanagi
The Unknown Craftsman, A view into the origins of the Mingei movement and the Zen of making things.
Clay and Glazes for the Potter by Daniel Rhodes and Robin Hopper
Clay and Glazes for the Potter is a reference for anyone who wants to understand the formulas used by potters. This is the third edition revised by Robin Hopper, and some like it better than the first two editions by Rhodes, some do not. I have the second edition and use it frequently.
